Asad is an award winning television journalist and newsreader for the BBC. At 18 he became the youngest foreign exchange dealer in the City of London. Two years later, he worked as are searcher in the House of Lords. He read Law at University, joining the BBC on its prestigious graduate news trainee scheme. He won awards including a RoyalTelevision Society reporter of the year award. There was also a BAFTA nomination for News Programme of the Year, which he presented after the Grenfell tower fire in west London.
Over several decades, Asad has worked with a range of charitable organisations. He is an Ambassador for HRHPrince of Wales’s charity, Mosaic - and an Ambassador for the Prince's BritishAsian Trust.
Asad’s interest in the RamadanTent Project developed after reporting on a leading British Jewish rabbi who decided to fast during Ramadan. The rabbi invited Asad to a RTP Open Iftar. Asad says “I immediately loved the way people - regardless of religion, beliefs, background, sex and colour were welcome. We sat among strangers sharing food and conversation. It proves how simple acts of kindness, humanity and love can make us all happier, closer and stronger.”
